Recently a Cherokee Nation program took third place in the civic
division of the 62nd Annual Stilwell Strawberry Festival parade.
The Cherokee Nation Indian Child Welfare (ICW) staff enjoyed working together as a team to design the float and we were very fortunate to have Brian Joe, our resident artist to design and make the signs, which included our title, ‘Strawberry Land’ in Cherokee syllabary,” said Lou Stretch, ICW program manager. “All the kids really enjoyed being strawberry fairies and fishermen and winning was just a little extra reward for an enjoyable team effort.” The mission of the Cherokee Nation ICW program is to provide tribal children that are unable to be cared for by their biological family a safe and permanent home. The Stilwell Strawberry Festival is held annually on the second Saturday in May in down town Stilwell |
