Sequoyah Schools graduated 65 students during its 2009 commencement ceremony. This class of graduates has earned a number of awards, recognitions and scholarships. Accomplishments of this year’s class: *The class earned a cumulative total of $2.6 million in scholarships *50 percent are members of a National Honor Societies *66 percent are attending college or a university *18 percent will be attending a vocational school, including one student attending The Metropolitan Film School in London, England *More than 9 percent of graduates are Gates Millennium Scholars *15 percent of the class received the Oklahoma Higher *Two are entering the Armed Forces Sequoyah Schools, a boarding school for Native American students, originated in 1871 as an orphan asylum to care for children who were orphaned by the Civil War. Now known as Sequoyah Schools, it is named for Sequoyah, the scholar who developed the Cherokee syllabary. The school is regionally and state accredited for grades 7-12 and has become the school of choice for more than 400 Native American students every year.
