Cherokee Nation will host a 3-on-3 basketball tournament during the 57th Cherokee National Holiday, beginning Friday, September 4, and continuing through Sunday, September 6. The games will begin on Friday at 5 p.m. and at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The event will be held at the Male Seminary Recreation Center located at 1501 Graham Avenue just off of Fourth Street in Tahlequah.

Five different categories allow all ages to play in the tournament, including adult men and women, 17 and under, 14 and under, 12 and under and 10 and under. Teams may consist of up to four players. Team members must be citizens of a federally recognized tribe with the exception of one non-Indian player per team. Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place teams.

There is an entry fee of $40 per team and the deadline to register a team is Friday, August 28.

The Cherokee National Holiday has been held since 1953 to commemorate the anniversary of the signing of the 1839 Cherokee Constitution. With its exciting array of entertainment, cultural and athletic events, it has grown into one of the largest festivals in Oklahoma, attracting more than 90,000 visitors from across the world. This year’s theme is elohi nusdidanv degadelaquasgesdi (“I learn from all that I observe”), reflecting the Cherokee Nation’s long held belief in education as a means to uplift individuals and their communities. The 57th Cherokee National Holiday is a smoke-free event. For more information about the Cherokee National Holiday, please call 918-453-5536 or visit http://holiday.cherokee.org.
