TAHLEQUAH, OK — In a collaborative effort with the State of Oklahoma in an initiative to combat the use of meth in our communities, the Cherokee Nation will be hosting several watch parties for the showing of a thirty-minute historic documentary on how community members can work together to fight back against the use of meth and other drugs.
The show, entitled “Crystal Darkness,” will be aired on Tuesday, January 13, from 6:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. simultaneously on most local stations and some cable outlets throughout the state. In the Tulsa viewing area, the show will be aired on KJRH-Channel 2, KOTV-Channel 6, KTUL-Channel 8, FOX Channel 23, and OETA Channel 11. “Crystal Darkness” focuses on the dangers of meth use, topics to discuss with youth and suggestions on how individuals and area residents can work to fight against the use of meth in their communities. Utilizing the spirit of gadugi, the Cherokee Nation Behavioral Health Services’ Community Anti-Drug Network (CAN) is partnering with the State of Oklahoma in the showing of this event. The Cherokee Nation’s CAN program works to partner communities together for the purpose of preventing the onset and progression of substance abuse. This is done by delivering effective substance abuse prevention services through a collaboration of various tribal, state and community services, which produce prevention efforts that positively impact the lives of all people living in the Cherokee Nation. The Cherokee Nation CAN program will be hosting public watch parties of the documentary on Tuesday, January 13, at the following locations: Nowata: Living Word Family Church – 225 S. Ash (Hwy 169) – 5:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend the watch party at one of these community locations to view the documentary.
