CATOOSA, OK - The Cherokee Nation will host an Inter-Tribal Emergency
Management Coalition (ITEMC) Summit on Monday, June 2 through Wednesday,
June 4, at the Cherokee Casino Resort in Catoosa.
The ITEMC is a coalition of Oklahoma Tribal Emergency Management agencies and other emergency response agencies that meet on a monthly basis to share information and ideas on how to improve emergency response, disaster recovery and to minimize the effects of disasters on any situation, emergency or disaster that may or will impact the member tribes of this coalition and the citizens in or near their respective areas of responsibility. The summit will provide information on debris management, pandemic flu plans, incident command systems/emergency operation center interface, the legal issues related to tribal emergency management, bioterrorism, citizen emergency response teams, volunteer management, the national flood insurance programs and other issues associated with emergency management. Speakers for the event will include Albert Ashwood the Director of Oklahoma Emergency Management, Mike McCool the Tulsa County/City Emergency Management Director and Kary Cox the Emergency Management Director for Washington County will discuss the challenges related to flooding and oil spills. The ITEMC Summit is open to all Oklahoma tribal emergency response agencies as well as other emergency response agencies, and there is no cost for registration.
