PARK HILL, Oklahoma – Brought back by popular demand, the Cherokee
Heritage Center will once again present Under the Cherokee Moon.
Performances will run on Friday and Saturday evenings from May 30 to
August 16. Seating begins at 6 p.m. in Adams Corner Rural Village.
Theatergoers will have the option of being served dinner before show
time at 6:30 p.m., or elect to attend only the show at approximately 7
p.m.
The story begins on the front porch of the Adams Corner General Store as it transforms to center stage for the first show, “Amazing Graces,” bringing 1800s Indian Territory to life. Revisit the days when the Cherokee Female Seminary stood on the grounds of the Cherokee Heritage Center. Award-winning actor and storyteller Laurette Willis portrays Trail of Tears survivor, Seminary graduate and teacher Carrie Bushyhead, as well as Missionary/teacher Sarah Worcester in this moving, interactive production. Next, travel back another 100 years to 1776 for “Around Cherokee Council Fires,” performed in the Ancient Village. There participants can decide with the Cherokee leaders of the day whether or not to become involved in the war being fought between the British and the Colonists who continue to encroach on Cherokee lands. The Cherokee Heritage Center is located three miles south of downtown Tahlequah, Oklahoma, just off Highway 62. Turn East on Willis Road. Follow Willis Road and turn right on S. Keeler Drive, leading directly to the Cherokee Heritage Center. Regular admission rates for Dinner and Theater performances are $25 for adults and $15 for children, or $15 and $10 for Theater only.
