TAHLEQUAH, OK - Beginning in October, the Cherokee Nation will
offer several Cherokee Language classes in various locations throughout
its 14-county jurisdictional area.
“The Cherokee Nation is pleased to offer language classes to our community members,” said Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. “It is important to continue to pass down our language to younger generations of Cherokees to ensure its survival in generations to come. Our language is important to our cultural identity.” The classes are sponsored by the Cherokee Nation’s Cultural Resource Center, which provides historical and cultural information about the Cherokee Nation and its heritage. Since its inception the Cultural Resource Center has worked to offer educational materials that provide accurate information about historical facts and events, biographies of chiefs and other historically important figures and the Trail of Tears. The language class will be offered in the following communities: Bluejacket City Hall The classes are free to the public and will run for ten consecutive weeks.
