"the People's Paths!" Cherokee News Path - Cherokee Nation 5K Run Winners Announced

TAHLEQUAH, OK - More than 400 entries were received for Cherokee Nation’s Annual 5K Run, which took place over the 55th Annual Cherokee National Holiday.

“We had a great turnout this year,” said Sherry Parks, coordinator. “This event gets bigger every year and we really have a lot of fun!”

Nearly 250 runners participated in the 5K Run. WINGS Running Club members from Virginia, California, New Mexico and Wisconsin, as well as local communities, took part in the competition.

The overall winner of the men’s division was 18 year-old Travis Wickliffe, who finished the race with a time of 17:54. In the women’s division, 31 year-old Hanna Massey was the overall winner with a finishing time of 21:25. Each of the overall winners received a trophy.

Olympic-style medals were presented to the first three runners in each age divison.

The run also included a one-mile fun run. The top six finishers of this race were Todd Ben, Nathan Harlin, Connor Boyd, John Crowley, Molly Stocks and Rebekah Harlin.

“I want to thank Reasors for donating snacks to the 5K run and Mazzio’s for providing prizes for the top six finishers in the fun run,” said Parks. “I was so happy to see another successful turnout for this event. I know that the WINGS Running Club worked very hard to provide us with a lot of participants and it is their support that makes this event such a success. I appreciate the hard work of all of the volunteers for helping to ensure that the registration process ran smoothly. I would like to send a special thanks out to Shelley Butler-Allen, George Long, Linda Vann, Bobbie Barr, Vicki Madha, Ida Sue Gray, Andrea Taylor and Shaun West. I look forward to next year’s run!”
