TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - In appreciation of the toe-tapping sounds of
fiddle music played during this year’s Cherokee National Holiday, the
Cherokee Nation would like to announce the winners of the Cherokee
National Holiday Fiddlers Contest.
“This year’s event was a huge success,” said Jerry Bigfeather, event coordinator. “I would like to congratulate all of the winners and appreciate everyone who took part in this competition.” In the Junior Division, first place was awarded to Michael Thompson. The second-place winner was Douglas Thompson, third-place was presented to Billy Sullivan and fourth-place went to Regina Scott. Douglas Thompson won first-place in the Cherokee Division. Second-place was presented to Bubba Hopkins and the third-place was winner was Sadie Gaylord. In the Open Division, first-place was awarded to Douglas Thompson. The second-place winner was Dave Gaylord and Bubba Hopkins was presented with the third-place award. Early Jennings was the first-place winner in the Senior Division. Second-place was awarded to Neil Gourd and third-place was presented to Bill Shanks. The Fiddler’s Contest is held annually in conjunction with the Cherokee National Holiday. |
