PARK HILL, Oklahoma - The Cherokee Heritage Center is offering an
introductory course in the making of traditional Southeastern pottery on
Saturday, Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cherokee potter, Pat Stewart
will serve as the course instructor.
The Southeastern Pottery class offers an opportunity to practice the techniques of hand-built pottery while learning about this time-honored tradition and the lessons that it teaches. Pottery found at archaeological sites throughout the Southeast has given us a glimpse into both daily life and ceremonial practices of the region’s population prior to written history. Early registration is recommended as class size is limited. Each student will be given the opportunity to make their own vessel. A fee of $40 includes tuition and materials. Stewart will teach the course as part of a series of hands-on cultural classes offered by the Cherokee Heritage Center. Upcoming classes in this series include loom weaving, blowgun making, and marble making. Contact the Cherokee Heritage Center for the complete schedule. To register for the class or for additional information contact the Cherokee Heritage Center’s Education Department, phone: 918-456-6007 or send an email to: education@cherokeeheritage.org.
