"Sequoyah head girls’ basketball coach, Bill Nobles, presents senior Angel Goodrich with a Kansas Jayhawk jersey after she officially signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Kansas University."
TAHLEQUAH, OK - Sequoyah Senior Angel Goodrich made her verbal commitment to Kansas University official by signing a letter of intent to play basketball for the Kansas Jayhawks.

“I’m excited,” Goodrich said about playing basketball for Kansas. “I think it’s a good fit for me.”

Goodrich, a three-time Oklahoma state tournament Most Valuable Player, Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year, and Oklahoma Tipoff magazine cover girl, took her decision to go to Kansas very seriously.

“I really like the atmosphere at Kansas and the people there", Goodrich said.

Goodrich was also recruited by the University of Oklahoma, Tulsa University, Oklahoma State University and Texas A&M.

While playing basketball at Sequoyah, Goodrich has led the team to three state championships and is currently on a 39 game winning streak, entering her senior basketball season.

“I want to thank my family and my teammates for all of their support,” Goodrich said. “They have helped me get here.”

Goodrich and the rest of the Sequoyah basketball teams will open up their season on Saturday, December 1 at Riverside Indian School in Anadarko.

Sequoyah Schools, a boarding school for Native American students, originated in 1871 as an orphan asylum to take care of many orphans who came out of the Civil War. It has since served as the Sequoyah Orphan Training School and the Sequoyah Vocational School. Now known as Sequoyah Schools, it is named for Sequoyah, the scholar who developed the Cherokee syllabary. In November 1985, the Cherokee Nation assumed the operation of Sequoyah. It is regionally and state accredited for grades 7-12 and has become the school of choice for more than 400 students every year.
