TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA – The Cherokee Nation is offering a variety of emergency medical training courses to the public this spring.

The Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will be offered April 11-12, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. PALS is designed to provide individuals an opportunity to broaden their pediatric care skills and knowledge. Prevention of cardiac arrest in the critically ill pediatric patient is the focus of this course. Cost for the course is $150, and payment must be made prior to class. Sixteen continuing education units (CEUs) will be awarded for the completion of the course.

The Advanced Medical Life Support course will be offered June 13-14 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. This two day, sixteen-hour course, is an in-depth study of medical emergencies. The curriculum is designed to allow for a minimal amount of lecture and an ample amount of actual hands-on physical assessment of the patient. Course cost is $100, and 16 CEUs will be awarded upon completion of this course.

Additional classes being offered include the Advanced Cardiac Life Support on May 2, from 7:45 a.m. until 6 p.m. at a cost of $125, and the Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support Provider course to be held May 23-24, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. for $100.

Cherokee Nation Emergency Medical Services is approved as a training agency by the Oklahoma State Health Department, Division of EMS. All courses are open to the public and will be held at the Cherokee Nation EMS building, 22214 South Bald Hill Road, three miles south of Tahlequah on Highway 62, unless otherwise noted.
