TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Polling places have been set for Cherokee Nation
citizens to vote for tribal officials as well as a Constitutional
amendment to remove federal approval from the process during the tribe’s
general election on Saturday, June 23. Polls will be open on the day of
the election at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m.
Cherokee citizens registered to vote in the election should have received a new voter registration card, listing their district number and precinct number along with a code letter, which identifies the actual voting location for the upcoming special election. Registered Cherokee voters can cast their ballots early in person on June 19, 20 and 21, 2007, at the Election Commission office, 22116 S. Bald Hill Road, Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The runoff election will be held on July 28, and registered voters have until June 18, 2007, to request an absentee ballot for the runoff election.
