Cherokees Provides Clothes for Kids

TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Some Cherokee students will be able to add to their school wardrobe in time for the upcoming school year. The Cherokee Nation is providing gift certificates for school clothes in the amount of $75 to qualified area students.

“The Cherokee Nation is pleased to offer programs such as this one,” said Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. “Education is very important to the Cherokee people and our communities. We are proud to offers services that help parents to prepare their children for the upcoming school year.”

The Cherokee Nation’s Human Services Department will distribute the gift certificates through a program called Clothes for Kids.

The program is open to Cherokee citizens in grades K-12 who reside in the 14-county jurisdictional boundaries of the Cherokee Nation. All participants must meet income guidelines. Applicants must provide proof of address, income verification and a copy of student’s tribal membership card. Gift certificates will be awarded in the amount of $75 from Wal-Mart.

Cherokee Nation Human Services staff will be available from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the following dates at various locations throughout its jurisdictional area:

* Wednesday, July 11 Cherokee Nation Housing Authority Tom Buffington Heights 900 W. McNellis Ave. 31-B, Vinita, OK

* Thursday, July 12 Hwy 66 and Pine, Catoosa, OK

* Tuesday, July 17 Industrial Park Rd. 1600 ˝ N. Main, Jay, OK

* Thursday, July 19 Cherokee Nation Complex Human Services Department, Tahlequah, OK

* Tuesday, July 24 Third and Oak Street, Stilwell, OK

* Wednesday, July 25 101 Quesberry, Sallisaw, OK

* Thursday, July 26 Cherokee Nation Complex Human Services Department, Tahlequah, OK

* Friday, July 27 Cherokee Nation Food Distribution, Salina, OK

* Monday, July 30 Muskogee Clinic 1805 N York Street Suite A, Muskogee, OK

Cherokee Nation Human Services Staff will be in the sub offices one day only and in the Tahlequah area two days. Staff members request that you go to the location nearest you if at all possible.
