TULSA, OKLAHOMA - Native American artists from around the country will
once again be returning to Cherokee Casino Resort for the second
Cherokee Art Market, scheduled for October 12-14, 2007. The cultural
event includes a lavish kick-off gala, an art show and sale featuring
exquisite artwork created by 200 talented Native American artists.
"The Cherokee Nation is committed to continuing to develop a marketplace for our Cherokee artists," said Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. "The Cherokee Art Market promotes our Cherokee artists to art collectors and to the public. It not only provides our Cherokee artists with an opportunity to sell their art so that they can continue creating Cherokee art which is important for our culture, it also creates public awareness of the beauty and uniqueness of southeast art." This dynamic, event-filled weekend kicks off October 12 with the Gala Art Reception. Prize money totaling $75,000 will be awarded to winning artists of the juried art competition, which is judged by a distinguished panel of Native American art and history experts. Native American artists are encouraged to enter the competition. Last year’s inaugural Cherokee Art Market was a huge success boasting more than 2,000 guests and nearly 200 elite Native American artists. This year’s event promises to be even more outstanding. Guests will again have the rare opportunity to view and buy from an immense collection of paintings, sculptures, weavings, baskets, clothing, jewelry and photography. Visitors to the Cherokee Art Market 2007 will enjoy a unique and talented collection of live performances such as singing, dancing and storytelling.
