TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA – Sequoyah School’s Travis Boswell recently signed
on to play football for Northeastern State University at Tahlequah. The
Ft. Gibson area senior will continue to thrill local fans and visitors
alike with his competitive spirit.
“The Cherokee Nation is very proud of Travis,” said Chad Smith,
Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. “We have enjoyed watching him
for Sequoyah throughout his high school career and look forward to
watching him play for NSU. Travis is a great example to the student body
at Sequoyah Schools and exemplifies what the Cherokee Nation has been
built upon, which is spirit, hard work and dedication.”
“I chose to go to NSU because it is close to home,” said Boswell. “I’ve
always wanted to play college ball, so I think this will be a good
experience.”
With 40 plus years of coaching behind him, Assistant Coach Bill Scott
describes Boswell as a competitor.
“NSU got someone who can play football when they signed Travis,” said
Scott. “He is an excellent student with a great work ethic. NSU is lucky
to get him.”
Incredibly, Boswell received a full scholarship or as some refer to it a
“full ride,” which is the best that NSU has to offer.
“Travis is my first player to go on to play college ball,” said Head
Coach Brent Scott. “I am very excited for him. Travis has done a lot for
me in my career as a coach. He was chosen as the area MVP and made
district 2-A All-State. It will be nice to have him close to home so
that I can keep up with his college career.”
With the support and encouragement of his parents, Barry and Becky
Boswell, Travis has already begun preparing for his college career.
“To stay and shape and get ready for next season, I lift weights and run
everyday,” said Boswell. “I’m not sure what position I will play, but I
may be a running back or a linebacker.”
“I know Travis will be successful in his college career,” said Assistant
Coach Bill Scott. “That boy doesn’t know how to quit; besides his dad
wouldn’t let him.”
