TAHLEQUAH, OK – Sequoyah Schools invites basketball fans and the public
to a celebration honoring the school’s girls and boys basketball teams
and their accomplishments in the Class 3A state championship games, on
Tuesday, April 24, in Tahlequah. The girls’ team won first place for the
third straight year and the boys’ team brought home runner-up honors.
The celebration will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a pep assembly in the Sequoyah Schools activity center, The Place Where They Play. The pep assembly will be followed by an autograph session with the players and a victory parade through downtown Tahlequah to the Cherokee Nation Courthouse, where the teams will unveil the state championship and runner-up trophies and address the crowd. Festivities will continue with a victory dance demonstration by the Sequoyah H.O.P.E Club and a hog fry on the tribal courthouse grounds.
