TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Nation Cultural Resource
Center is sponsoring several 10-week Cherokee language classes
throughout the Cherokee Nation.
The classes are for anyone interested in learning to read, write and speak the Cherokee language and are suitable for beginners. All books and materials are provided free of charge by the Cultural Resource Center and there is no registration fee for the class. “The Cherokee language is important to maintaining our cultural heritage and identity,” said Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith, “Through programs such as our community language initiative we are we are working diligently to teach our future generations our native tongue.” Classes will be held in Bell, Catoosa, Jay, Oaks, Rocky Mountain, Tahlequah, Vian and Westville.
