National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week will begin with the recognition of the EMS staff during the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council meeting on Monday, May 15.
“We have a lot planned for this week,” said Patricia Hawk, interim director for Cherokee Nation EMS. “Our main goal will be to bring awareness to the community on the services that Cherokee Nation EMS can provide.”
Also on Monday, EMS will be providing blood pressure checks inside the Tahlequah Wal-Mart from 1:30 until 5 p.m.
“We hope that by getting out into the community during this week we can show people what Emergency Medical Services are comprised of,” said Martin Webb, ambulance supervisor.
On Wednesday, May 17, EMS will be offering a free adult CPR class for adults 18 and older. The class will begin at 6 p.m. and is limited to the first 40 who sign up.
The week of events will wrap up on Thursday, May 18, with EMS services visiting the Cherokee Nation Child Development Center and Headstart to allow the children to view the ambulances and EagleMed helicopter, weather permitting. Crash test dummies, Vince and Larry, will also be on hand to talk to the kids.
