TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA – Cherokee Nation Emergency Medical Services (EMS) training program was recently honored with the 2005 Indian Health Services (IHS) National Director’s Award.

This award acknowledges that the EMS Training Program has demonstrated their dedication and outstanding support to the IHS missions and goals, and also reflects the recognition of their hard work and the appreciation of their colleagues and peers.
“We were nominated by Dione Harjo, EMS coordinator for Oklahoma Area IHS,” said Linda Squirrel, special projects coordinator for Cherokee Nation EMS. “This is one of the highest awards that you can receive from IHS.”
An awards ceremony was held at IHS Headquarters in Rockville, Maryland. David Hiler, Cherokee Nation EMS instructor was on hand to receive the award.
“Through working with Cherokee Nation EMS I have come to find that they not only serve the Native people, but the community as well with an exceptional program and staff,” said Dione Harjo, EMS coordinator for Oklahoma Area HIS.
