TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA – The renowned Cherokee National Youth Choir will be holding auditions for new members on Tuesday, January 3 and again on Tuesday, January 10, 2006, from 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. in the council chambers of the Cherokee Nation Complex in Tahlequah.

Students interested in auditioning must be between the 7th and 12th grades in school, a Cherokee Nation citizen and live within the 14 county jurisdiction of the Cherokee Nation. Proof of residence and tribal membership must be provided at the time of the audition.
The Cherokee National Youth Choir is comprised of an average of 40 students within the Cherokee Nation. The group has gained popularity in recent years, and has toured throughout Oklahoma and the United States, including special performances at Mount Rushmore, the National Congress of the American Indian convention, and last year throughout the Washington D.C. area, including a special performance at the White House where they were introduced by President Bush. Recently, the group was invited to South Dakota for a special performance to Native American youth to show their example and leadership abilities as well as their musical talent. The group has also recently produced a new CD which is currently being played on area radio stations and sold throughout the Cherokee Nation.
Because of the recent popularity of the choir, students wishing to audition will need to schedule an audition time. Audition times will be granted on a first-call basis.
