OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA - The Sequoyah High School (SHS) girls and boys basketball teams both won their first games in the Oklahoma state class 3A basketball tournament to advance to the state semi-finals.

"Our bench stepped up and got some big points," said Jay Herrin, SHS girls’ assistant basketball coach. "They came up big for us."

Sequoyah’s girls exploded in the first quarter, but the Millwood Lady Falcons soon matched their scoring ability and cut the SHS lead 32-29 at half-time. SHS won the game 62-60.

The SHS boys defeated Dewey, 63-52, pulling ahead in the third quarter and retaining the lead throughout the game.

Both teams will play in the semi-final games on Friday, March 11 at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds. The SHS girls will meet Chisholm at 11:30 a.m. and the boys will play Millwood at 9 p.m.
