"With these awards, supervisors and fellow workers at Cherokee Nation nominate someone they feel deserves this recognition," said Randy Gibson, executive director for the Tahlequah Chamber of Commerce. "Our board then gathers these nominations and votes on someone to take this award. This is a way for the community to say thanks for doing a great job with the services you perform."
Ruark has been a paramedic with Cherokee Nation Emergency Medical Service (EMS) for fourteen years.
"This is a great honor to me to be recognized by my peers, community and the Chamber of Commerce," Ruark said.
"Glen is a pretty quiet person, but his leadership is shown every day," said Patricia Hawk, director of Cherokee Nation EMS. "He motivates others both verbally and by example, and he holds the existence of life sacred and is respectful of others at all times."
Cherokee Nation paramedic Kyle Murphy was the recipient of this same award in 2004.
