TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee National Youth Choir will hold auditions for choir membership Saturday, January 17, at 9:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Cherokee Nation complex south of Tahlequah.To audition, participants must be citizens of the Cherokee Nation in grades 6 through 12, and reside within the 14-county jurisdictional area of the Cherokee Nation. During the audition, participants will be asked to sing a song of their choice and a song selected by the choir director. Students are not required to sing in the Cherokee language, but are encouraged to do so.
The Cherokee National Youth Choir released their most recent CD in Fall 2003 and recently earned their second Native American Music Award (NAMMY) for their previous CD, 'Building One Fire'. The group’s first CD, 'Voices of the Creator’s Children', earned a NAMMY in 2002.
