TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Nation is requesting proposals for artwork and logo for the 2004 Cherokee National Holiday. The theme of the 2004 Cherokee National Holiday is "Spirit of the Trail.""The artwork and logo should accurately reflect the theme of the Holiday," said Lou Slagle, Cherokee National Holiday coordinator. "There is a lot of artistic talent here locally and we hope to showcase that in the Holiday art."
Artists do not need to have artwork and logo completed to enter, however, the finished artwork must be completed by March. A sketch of the proposed artwork is acceptable. Artwork submissions are due by 5 p.m., January 23. The artist must be a tribal citizen of the Cherokee Nation and should also include the asking price of the artwork. The Cherokee Nation will choose an artist by January 30 and notify them at that time.
Cherokee Nation will retain all rights to reproduce the selected artwork and it will become property of the Cherokee Nation. The artwork will appear on the Holiday posters and program and the logo will appear on items including t-shirts, posters, website and other souvenirs. The logo can be adapted from the artwork or may be a separate submission.
Artists should deliver submissions to the Cherokee Nation Holiday office, located in the office annex of the Cherokee Nation complex in Tahlequah, rooms 110 and 104. Artists are responsible for picking up unselected artwork after January 30. The Cherokee Nation is not responsible for damages to artwork.
