TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Chad Stevens, a senior at Sequoyah High School (SHS), recently signed a letter of intent to play football at Bacone College.

"Bacone is close to home and I wanted to continue my football career", Stevens said. "Bacone was the best choice for me."

"Were excited for Chad", said Don Stogsdill, SHS football coach. "This is a great opportunity for him. He has been a great part of our success over the last few years and we wish him a lot of luck."

Stevens, of Muskogee, has earned many honors during his high school football career at SHS. He was chosen as the district most valuable player and the Muskogee Phoenix’s most valuable player. He also plays baseball and is the statistician for the boys’ basketball team.

"Chad is also a potential baseball prospect,” Stogsdill said. "That speaks volumes on what kind of athlete he is."

"I would like to thank my family for always helping me", Stevens said. "If it wasn’t for them, I couldn’t have done this."

Sequoyah High School, an Indian boarding school, originated in 1871, when the Cherokee National Council passed an act setting up an orphan asylum to take care
of many orphans that came out of the Civil War.

Sequoyah High School's approximate 300 enrollment represents 42 tribes and 14 different states. Students are eligible to attend if they are members of federally recognized Indian tribes or one-fourth blood
descendants of such members.
