TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Heritage Center will host a Cherokee Cultural Development Workshop as an in-service for area school teachers, administrators, faculty, and all interested parties on Thursday, February 6 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the CHC atrium. There is no charge for the workshop and participants will be awarded multi-cultural staff development points.

Dr. Sue Ellen Read will discuss Native American Learning styles. Dr. Read is a professor of education and director of the Oklahoma Institute of Learning Styles at NSU Muskogee and has 14 years of experience in the field. Dr. Read was named the Professor of the Year in Oklahoma by the Carnegie Foundation in 2002, and was also named into the Hall of Fame of Eastern Oklahoma State Colleges in 2003. Dr. Read has worked with Native American tribes in Montana, Minnesota, California, Alaska and New Mexico.

Dr. Read has written extensively on learning styles and is credited with conducting the largest amount of research ever done on Native American Learning Styles. She also serves as the Director of a $1.2 million dollar grant at Locust Grove School to convert it to a learning style school.

Dr. Read's goal is both simple and vital, "To show kids their learning potential."
