CLAREMORE, OK - Cherokee Nation is working to provide a support group for Native American Veterans.The Cherokee Nation Behavioral Health Services (BHS) at Claremore Indian Hospital and the Cherokee Nation Department of Veteran Affairs are working together to provide a support group for our Native Veterans.
“The group focus will be on Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Substance Abuse, and readjustment issues often experienced by our Veteran population,” said Steve Sumner, substance abuse counselor, with Cherokee Nation Behavioral Health.
Sumner and Eddie Hoklotubbe, veteran’s counselor for the Cherokee Nation Veterans Affair Office, will facilitate the group. Both men are Vietnam combat veterans who have been involved in Veteran’s Affairs for several years.
The group, which will meet every two weeks, is scheduled to start at Claremore BHS Clinic from 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2003. Interested Veterans will need to be eligible for services at Claremore Indian Hospital.
