TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Nation will be hosting a pack test for the Cherokee Nation Fire Dancers on April 8, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Sequoyah High School track.Representatives from the U.S. Forest Service will administer the pack test, which consists of walking a distance of three miles within 45 minutes, with a 45- pound pack/vest. Individuals are required to wear footwear with ankle support when taking the pack test. Participants must pass the pack test to be eligible to attend firefighting training.
Participants must be at least 18 years old; have proof of membership from a federal recognized tribe; fill out a firefighter application and include supporting documentation (i.e., photocopy of driver's license or state issued I.D., CDIB and Social Security Card); and provide proof of recent medical exam prior to taking the pack test.
