The Cherokee Nation and the Housing Authority of the Cherokee Nation are teaming up to provide supplies for winterization for tribal members. Eligibility consists of being a Cherokee Nation tribal member and residing within the 14-county jurisdictional boundaries of the Cherokee Nation. Winterization supplies available include caulk, caulk guns, weatherstripping, plastic for windows, and insulation wrap for exposed pipes.The program has been in place since November, and many families and community organizations have already taken part. Under the program, the Housing Authority provides the labor to winterize the homes of those people needing assistance, including but not limited to elderly or disabled citizens. Supplies are also being provided to community groups who will distribute supplies and may assist with winterizing the residences. Individuals and families willing to winterize their own residences can pick up supplies at Housing Authority Area Offices, which are located in Jay, Stilwell, Owasso, Locust Grove, Claremore, Sallisaw and Tahlequah.
