TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Nation is working to make Christmas a little merrier for kids across northeastern Oklahoma this holiday season by hosting an angel tree. The Christmas needs of disadvantaged children are written on paper angels hanging from Christmas trees in the Cherokee Nation complex in Tahlequah. Community members are encouraged to come to the complex, take an angel, buy gifts for the child, and return the gifts so they can be delivered to the children as Christmas approaches. To kick off this year’s Cherokee Nation Angel Tree Project, the community is invited to the tree lighting ceremony at the Cherokee Nation complex Thursday, November 30th from 4:00-5:00 p.m. The program will feature music from the Cherokee Choir, messages from Chief Smith, Deputy Chief Shade, and Hettie Charboneau, of Indian Child Welfare. The activities include refreshments, door prizes, and will culminate with the lighting of the Cherokee Nation Tree and Complex. Angels will be available in the Cherokee Nation complex during the next few weeks.
