Over the many years that I have been studying the language I have come to realize that the language is useless, unless you are able to use it in conversation. Generally, what happens when I encounter people who are learning the language, they will say the greeting using Cherokee and then revert back to English. Now we have the tools to teach and learn so our whole focus will be on conversational Cherokee. What this means is that I will be providing conversations and each day we will add a new word to the conversation. This may seem like a slow process, but we should amass a lot of words in a short time. So here is what you can expect. Every lesson will have a theme and we will build everyday from the previous lesson. You will continually reinforce the words and phrases that we add to your vocabulary. If you study and devote the time, I promise you that I am going to teach you how to speak functional Cherokee. Once a lesson is done I will test your comprehension and hopefully you will become more proficient with the language. Conversation 1 Hello Si-yu Hello Si-yo NEW PHRASE How are you? Ha-yo-l-da-tsu or Ha-yo-l-da-tsv When you listen to the recording you will notice that the second recording has the (tsv) sound. That is dialectical difference that you may hear. A key thing to remember is that (tsu) is your question marker and (ha-yo-l-da) means good. So essentially you are saying are you good. There are several other ways to say, "How are you" but this is my favorite. We will use the other forms in later lessons. I know that some of you are not getting these voice attachment and all that I can tell you if you do not have a sound card for your computer you will not be able to hear the translation. ______________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, write to cwylanguage-unsubscribe@listbot.com .
